GENERAL PRESENTATION
Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest Spanish technical university. UPM’s Schools cover most of engineering disciplines, including Aeronautical, Agronomical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Forestry, Industrial, Mechanical, Mining, Nuclear, and Naval Engineering, as well as Architecture, Computer Science and Geodesy & Cartography.
UPM, as a top quality academic establishment, has a strong commitment to R&D and Innovation. It boasts over 200 Research Units and several Research Institutes and Technological Centres and contributes significantly to the international scientific community with a high number of journal papers, conference communications, and PhD theses. UPM receives a substantial financial support for research activities from external sources. It amounts to over 130 M€ per year and comprises a large part of an annual budget of the university, which is around 400 M€.
UPM ranks first among Spanish Universities in FP7 participation. Until now UPM participates in 97 FP7 projects with 25,4 M € funding.
UPM actively participates in Spanish and European Technology Platforms being a member of more than 10 European Technology Platforms belonging to the Steering Boards of several of them. The long-term research partnerships between companies and academics and promotion of the creation of spin-off companies are fostered by the UPM in order to demonstrate its commitment to maintain the highest standards of academic and professional excellence.

European Project Office:
The European Project Office at the UPM represents a one-stop-shop to facilitate potential partners to collaborate with UPM research groups in European R&D projects.
The European Project Office provides to UPM researchers assessment and help to participate in FP7 projects. Its experienced staff cover all technical areas and are high qualified to make easier the preparation of proposals.
