Research group on autonomous sensors
RESEARCH SUMMARY :
An autonomous sensor means that the sensor has its own power supply and is able to communicate automatically (or not) the information it collects to a database. The access to the database can be more or less restricted (internet). The sensor can be used individually or a part of a global network over a territory to establish a real-time mapping. The location of the sensor can be predetermined or known using a GPS for on-board systems. These sensors concern obviously many possible applications that everybody can easily figure out. We think that such a project could really touch the EU market and far beyond. Promising markets could be the ones meeting present social needs of exchanging information and/or sustainable development concerns. The discussion what we plan can be targeted towards one promising application but it would probably be more ambitious to think about the development of one standard plateform in terms of design and integration (i.e. focus on “autonomous” as a keyword) that could be later used for a large number of dedicated sensors.
